something old,
by MELANIE BILES
Panthers know that a change of scenery can't do anything to the core spirit of Priory.
something new
Everybody knows the old saying about something old
and something new being good luck for a wedding. It became clear as we stepped onto a campus refreshed with new buildings and still housing familiar loving faces, however, that the same would ring true for our school year.
Panthers returned to a campus that, to the untrained eye, much resembled the one we left last spring. However, as teachers settled into their brand-new chairs, group work became infinitely easier with the aid of triangular desks, and Mr. Siler waxed poetic about how much the new green paint was assisting our learning, we began to see just what we had gained.
Our Priory experience was only heightened as the year progressed and we were able to see what we had won in terms of new staff and students on campus. The new freshmen and sixth-graders fit in beautifully with the student body, contributing spirit and cheer to every event, and every

new teacher introduced something special and specific into the Priory community, be it Super Bowl-like softball advertisements or futons in their classrooms.
We feared, of course, that it was all too good to be true. There was no possible way that we could have gained so much without losing anything at all. However, as we filed into the chapel for the first service of the year and heard Mr. Molak tell us just like usual how many days were left until our next summer break, we began to see that our special Priory magic had not been depleted in any way. Indeed, we had been able to retain that Benedictine influence, welcoming atmosphere, and relaxed California attitude even with the addition of wonderful new resources and people.
Over the course of an average year, Panthers prove time and time again that their spirit will never fade. This year in particular, we were proud to keep our something old even as we headed into something new.
