When the class of 2014 first set foot on the
Priory campus in sixth grade, fresh-faced and full of energy, they were met by the only person in arguably the world with more energy than the average eleven-year-old: Mr. Matthew Nelson. As he bounced around the classroom, explaining his plan for the semester, the unknowing sixth-graders became more and more intrigued by this teacher who would come to define their Priory experience.
In the years since, and as the current seniors have added more numbers to their ranks, Mr. Nelson's enthusiasm has, if anything, increased. Nobody is more excited than he for discussions about the necessity of religious literacy or tangents about
various religious conversations and experiences. His knowledge of theology is unrivaled, but even more extensive is his ability to make any person feel welcomed and loved. “Mr. Nelson is the best,” comments Michaela Koval (12). “He's always so enthusiastic about what he has to teach us, and he welcomes and respects any opinions we have.”
Though there could never be enough time to spend with Mr. Nelson, Priory students know how lucky we have been to have had any time with him at all. The class of 2014 dedicates this book to Mr. Nelson for the amazing lessons he has taught us, the love he demonstrates, and the way he treats every day like the first day of sixth grade.
