LOCAL SOIL CONDITIONS AND PRIMARY TREATMENT MEASURES The local soil is characterized by a high salt content, high pH value and high groundwater level.
Techniques are use to counter the high salt levels within the soil which include; the storage of
fresh water to absorb salt from the soil; reduction of soil salt content with technological methods;
as well as topsoil transportation from some other places to use for growing. The most economical
of these methods is by storage of fresh water and the creation of strip fields to protect the soil
against salt contamination from sea water. This involves rainfall being stored around the saline
