Dean’s Message

Carleton’s Faculty of Science is home to a diverse range disciplines
including many award-winning, world-class researchers. In addition to
valuing excellence in traditional scientifi c areas, we embrace collaborative
and multidisciplinary research because we believe that fi nding solutions
to today’s most signifi cant challenges requires teamwork and multiple
        perspectives.
In every fi eld, we emphasize experiential learning and hands-on
discovery. As a result, our students acquire a range of skills appropriate
for a wide array of careers and graduate feeling prepared for an exciting
future in a competitive and evolving world: they have and will have a
        positive impact!
As illustrated in the pages of this magazine, science students at
Carleton benefi t from numerous collaborations and partnerships between
the university and government departments, research institutions and
industry partners. The opportunity for our students to gain practical,
hands-on experience and solve real-world problems is incredibly valuable
for our students, our partner organizations, and for our university. Time
and again, we have seen that the positive impact of this work can extend
        well beyond the initial project.
As Dean of the Faculty of Science, I’m proud to present this issue of
Eureka!, which showcases student success stories and highlights new
initiatives we are undertaking to provide co-op, internship, and other
experiential learning opportunities for our current and future students.
