MILLFIELD HOUSE

           A TYPICAL DAY &

           GENERAL INFORMATION

The timetable opposite sets out a typical day for the boys of DAILY
           Millfield House.
                                                                                  ROUTINE
           EARLY DAYS AT MILLFIELD HOUSE
Millfield is a big place, with loads going on and when you 06:50 Wake-up/shower
first arrive it can be difficult to find your bearings. It is
normal for new starters to feel a little overwhelmed by all
the information over the first few days. The house team 07:10 Roll call in common room
and group tutors will work hard to ensure that we are there
if anything is needed. We will aim to gradually introduce 07:15 Breakfast in dining hall
house rules and systems and to ensure your effective
integration into Millfield life. Regular house meetings and
events provide an important opportunity for us to come
together as a community and for the students to get to 08:00 Back to house to prepare for day
know the staff, as well as each other, and to talk through any
issues or concerns. Nonetheless even the most confident and 08:25 Registration with Group Tutor/
outgoing boys will have bad days, feel homesick, struggle Year assembly and then off to
with prep or miss their old friends. Everyone gets homesick lessons.
at some point and it takes some longer to adjust than others.
If you do go through a low patch then please let us know, so
we can discuss the issues. From experience we have found 15:45 Lessons end, back to house for
that the more you are on the phone to your parents during changing/snacks
this time, the less you are socialising and building friendships
with your new peer group (which can lead to you feeling 16:15
increasingly isolated). Think about arranging regular phone Activities, sports, co-curricular,
calls at agreed times and resisting the temptation to go outdoor education
home each weekend or call home a number of times a day.
It is important that no exeats should be taken for the first 17:15 Change in house followed by roll
two weekends a year. We know this is hard, but there will call
be a number of house events at this time designed to help
with getting to know people and settling in, as well as all 17:30 Supper in dining hall
the house staff being on hand to support you. For the vast
majority of boys this period of uneasiness will last no more
than a few weeks. 18:15 - Prep in rooms or common room.
                                                                         19.50
We are really looking forward to

welcoming your son to Millfield House 19:50 - Evening activity
and to getting to know him and you 20:30

much better over the coming years. 20:30 All electricals handed in and

                                                                         21:00 Reading in rooms
