CHANGING DIRECTION
“I’d say that the greatest
lesson I learned at
Millfield was confidence.
The confidence to do
what I wanted to do –
at any level.”
When Eleanor Hussey joined Millfield
Prep in Year 7 she had many interests, but
swimming was her primary focus. She was
one of the UK’s top pupils, competing at
the National Championships in Year 7.
But what happens if your goals change,
or injury intervenes?
“At Senior School I became more focused
on my studies and passion for music,”
said Eleanor. “Plus a medical condition
was impacting on my training.”
As Eleanor changed direction, Millfield
supported her along the journey.
“My passion for the Classics started in
Year 7, when I studied Latin, and Year 9
with Greek. Because of all the GCSEs I
was taking, I was allowed to take French
GCSE early in Year 9 and take Latin
lessons off-timetable.
“I’m now at Cambridge University studying
Classics. It’s a far cry from swimming
galas, but thanks to the support of my
teachers, coaches and houseparents, I’m
having an incredible time doing something
I love.”
