A LEVEL
           DRAMA & THEATRE STUDIES

OVERVIEW Drama at A level develops an informed and skilful theatre practice through the key
areas of devising, performing and analysing. It is for those with an interest in the
craft of theatre – as performer, director or designer – and for those looking to
develop the essential skills of creativity, collaboration and communication.

APPROACH The course integrates practical and written work throughout each unit. Key skills
are developed in workshop and rehearsal-style sessions, underpinned by an
analytical understanding of key practitioners, plays and techniques. Students
develop their performance and devising skills and are encouraged to find their own
voice. The course requires all students to collaborate on a devised theatre project
as well as performing or designing an extract from a contemporary play.
COURSE OUTLINE The course is assessed through practical and written work. The devised theatre
portfolio may be written or submitted as a presentation. It is both an academic
