CHINESE HSK

OVERVIEW The Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK) is the official Chinese test for non-native
learners. It is a valuable credential and globally recognised qualification.
The course is for students who have an interest in continuing their studies of
Chinese language and culture as a fourth subject on a reduced teaching timetable.
It is aligned with Chinese studies at major UK universities, so it provides a seamless
pathway for continuity into higher education. It can open doors to academic
scholarships and studying at top Chinese universities.
Although it does not currently count for UCAS points, it will certainly add value to
                                               university and job applications.

APPROACH Our approach is designed to instil curiosity, passion and cultural awareness in
learners, encouraging them to continue their learning journey with the subject.
Highlights include a two-day Chinese Food Festival, where students make and taste
authentic Chinese dishes, and celebrations of three major traditional festivals.
Activities include tasting festive foods, making lanterns, racing paper dragon boats,
and a visit to London during the Chinese New Year period.
Millfield was selected by the Chinese Government as Somerset’s first ‘Confucius
Classroom’, leading the promotion of Chinese language and culture in the region.
With the annual funding and teacher support that come with this status, we
currently run Mandarin clubs at four local schools.
You will be using a wide range of resources from formal textbooks to authentic
resources, enabling you to develop both your comprehension and communicative
skills. The use of modern technologies will also enhance your learning in and outside
