JOAN'S KITCHEN
LETTER FROM
A LOWER SIXTH
Hello, I'm Teddy and I joined Joans Kitchen (JK) last
September.
The first week of school will be challenging and you will
need to gain an understanding of the school so that you
are aware of where everything is. This may seem to be a
tough task at first but before you know it you will know
exactly where everything is. Millfield is exceptional at
occupying you with sports and other activities. Once
you’re in the rhythm of school, time will glide by!
At Millfield you will have many opportunities to socialise
with others. Whether that's with people in your lessons,
people doing the same sport as you or people from JK.
Besides this, the library is an incredible environment to
meet new people, it's something you should definitely
take advantage of. I found it hard to put myself out
there when I first arrived, but I learnt that you should try
your best to make new friends. Because Millfield is such
a diverse school, it gives you the opportunity to meet
people from all over the world. Also, this means that you
will meet countless people with similar interests.
The first thing you'll notice about JK, is that everyone
in the house will introduce themselves to you on the
night you arrive. The house always has a very friendly
atmosphere. An essential thing to remember is that
there is support available if you are feeling overwhelmed.
Every night, the kitchen and the common room are the
main social areas where you can meet new people across
various year groups. I recommend that you socialise as
much as possible because the quicker you make friends
the quicker you will feel at home.
Yours sincerely
Teddy
