2023 SCHOLARSHIP & COMMUNITY FUNDRAISER
Nicholas French
• 2023-2024 Bill Emerson National Hunger
Fellow
• Cornell University College of Human
Ecology B.S., ‘23
• Brian H. Jefferson Scholarship Recipient
• 2020 Kappa League President
Receiving the Brian H. Jefferson Scholarship through Southfield Kappa Foundation was one of the most
impactful forms of support I received on my path to college. The scholarship not only assisted me and my
family financially, but also socially and professionally. The men of the Southfield Kappa Foundation have
been ardent supporters of me throughout my educational career, offering indispensable advice and care
throughout both the challenging and celebratory stages of my journey, from the Kappa League to my early
adult years. Through the support of Mr. Ralph Jefferson and the rest of the Southfield Kappa Foundation I
was able to grow as a leader during my college career.
While at Cornell, I served as President of the Cornell University College of Human Ecology’s Association for
Students of Color, a Residential Advisor for my dorm, and an Undergraduate Member of the Human
Ecology Promoting Justice and Equity Committee. Though I have completed my undergraduate career at
Cornell University, I know that these incredible men of Southfield Kappa Foundation will continue to
elevate me and countless other youth to great heights on our educational path and journey in life.
I am especially thankful to the Jefferson family for their graciousness in my life. Mr. Jefferson has been my
mentor, confidante, and friend for many years, and I credit much of my growth to the knowledge that he
has imparted to me. As I take my next steps as a Bill Emerson National Hunger Fellow through the
Congressional Hunger Center, I leave knowing that the Southfield Kappa Foundation’s mission will continue
to run strong in the lives of other young people. It has been an honor to have been a recipient of a
Southfield Kappa Foundation Brian H. Jefferson Scholarship in memory of his son, and I thank everyone
