The Rite Journey Solo-Adventure camp was another successful and highly beneficial time away for 17 of our Year 9 students.
In partnership with Wilderness Escape Outdoor Adventures, we headed off on Wednesday, September 14th and travelled to Alligator Gorge, where we enjoyed the spectacular 2 km Narrows hike, and it was also wonderful to see water flowing in the creek. From there, we headed up to our campsite at Blue Range north of Quorn. By 4:00 pm, we had all the students out in tents for their Solo experience, no phones or technology, and away from family and friends, a challenging time for many.
On Thursday September 15th, everybody returned to base camp for a hearty breakfast,
and then we headed off for some rock climbing and abseiling, another big challenge but an excellent opportunity to overcome fear and working together as a team, growing trust as
well as self-confidence. After lunch at base camp, we worked on a fun team-building activity, building and racing billy carts, where there were plenty of laughs and friendly competition. Late that afternoon, we all took some much needed downtime, then enjoyed a tasty camp oven stew and baked potato for dinner and some spotlight before bedtime, where we endured a very windy night.
Friday September 16th, was pack up and breakfast, then we set off to Warren Gorge for a 5 km loop hike, where we enjoyed the beautiful views. On the final leg of our journey together, we stopped at Stone Hut for lunch from the bakery, then completed the trip home to Harvest Christian College, and family and friends.
The Rite Journey Camp is a significant part of The Rite Journey program and involves solitude, silence, being in nature, building community and connection, and requires courage, commitment and collaboration.
It was a great time away for all of us, led by Mr and Mrs Edwards, Mr Carson and Miss Roocke.
