expression 'plan B', which is a way of expressing an alternative option, in case your first situation
doesn't go as planned.

It can be used in many different situations, including at work. But it's always used when planning
something and suggesting alternatives. You wouldn't use it in academic writing, for example.
Feifei
No. That would be inappropriate. By the way, we were going to have a meeting later but, I forgot
to book a room. Sorry.
Beth
Don't worry. We can look for a room later and if we can't find one, plan B - we can meet over
coffee!
