Did you know?
More than 5 trillion pieces of plastic
are already floating in our oceans.
A letter from our guest editor
It’s been fantastic to see the change in attitudes
towards single use plastics over the last few years and
it’s hugely encouraging how many people are happy to
adapt their lifestyles and make that personal choice
to avoid single use plastic. I’m proud of the fact
that there is less plastic than there used to be in my
recycling and general waste bins at home, however I know that
I can still do more to reduce it even further.
Reducing the use of plastics, and especially single use plastics, is a great target
for any Eco-School to aim for. It’s an area with an opportunity to have a huge
impact and one that we can see in real tangible results. Eco-Committees and
all learners are in a great position to use their voice to raise awareness about
the problem and encourage their school community and also shops and other
businesses to re-think their plastic purchases.
