“New York”
By Seraphine Z., Grade 6
I walk among rich and poor alike and wander through
streets and alleys
I hear the dancers singing with joyful bursts of laughter
I know I have a long time to wander, for I am only a girl
But I know I will soar through the treetops and to the
highest mountains
I've seen everything from dancing paintings on the walls
to white buildings where the stars live.
Mummies wrapped in white, to small shops full of
dancing pages
I walk among the wires and the tunnels full of
expression and art
And crowded streets of Brooklyn, with its glory
bridge and garden
I listen to the sounds of midnight, hearing only the cars
The solitude and peace of calming sound
But I know the next day dawns full of new surprises
And look up to see the world as morning rises
For I walk in a grove of buildings
