YOU’LL
ALWAYS
BE THERE
th
By Jayla Longbrake, 10 grade
I’ll always think of you
As the waves crash into me.
As the sun burns my skin,
As my lips taste the sea.
I turn away from you,
But somehow you linger.
The salt on my lips tastes so bitter.
As I rinse and rinse and rinse,
The bitterness is ridden.
Washed from my skin so pure and sweet.
No more sand on the bottoms of my feet.
My mind is brackish.
I crave the tangy grain,
That once poisoned me.
And drove me insane.
I see you in every space.
My mind can’t erase,
The memories we shared.
How is this fair?
Why can’t I let you go?
How could you move on?
I know the answer,
So why am I asking?
Could there be feelings you’re masking?

If that is so,
Why am I worried?
You left in a hurry.
My heart is now buried.
I feel closure creeping in.
Soon, I will feel myself again.
