If the Future is
in Our Hands
Effie R. Biggs, Grade 8
Planting a tree today could save our lives, it may
They give us their oxygen, and we give them death
Their future is in our hands, so let’s help them
After all, it’s their land
Taken from their home or killed for their beauty
Animals never get to experience life, truly
We laugh at them behind the glass, but all they
feel is loneliness and suffering
Their future is in our hands, so let’s save them
After all, why not make a stand?
Garbage taints the once pure earth
So, ask the question, what’s it worth?
Oceans filled with the pain and tears of our home
Its future is in our hands, so let’s fix it
After all, we always get what we demand

They all depend on us, and we all depend
on them for our world not to die
So, if the future is in our hands,
why don’t we try?
