Disadvantages of VUSA academy:

• There is almost always a lack of funding
• Organisation experience very low pay

• There are loads of paperwork and administration costs
• Loss of tax status
• There is always a competition for funding
• Organisation can experience public scrutiny
• Lack of volunteers

Disadvantages of Western Province academy:

• Tax contributions can be very high
• Applications received can be very low
• Paperwork is high
• Programme is quite expensive and only quotes for a minority of individuals

Advantages and disadvantages are prevalent in both the non-profit and profit-based
organisations, it is up to the owners and or the members of the organisation to ensure that
the operation of the organisation runs smoothly and effectively, were VUSA looks upon
social grants and donations as a means of funding W.P academy looks upon profit generated
via its applicants to ensure adequate operation within the organisation.

In conclusion it is very important to understand the implications/differences between a non-
profit organisation and a profit-based organisation when looking to start up a business. It is
up to us as individuals to decide how we would like to give back to society, may it be
through personal development or simply just meeting the everyday needs of individuals that
we take for granted.
