Introduction to SDGs
The SDGs build on decades of work by countries and the UN, including
the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs. This Agenda is a plan of action
for people, planet and prosperity. It also seeks to strengthen universal
peace in larger freedom. We recognize that eradicating poverty in all its
forms and dimensions, including extreme poverty, is the greatest global
challenge and an indispensable requirement for sustainable development.
All countries and all stakeholders, acting in collaborative partnership, will
implement this plan. We are resolved to free the human race from the
tyranny of poverty and want and to heal and secure our planet. We are
determined to take the bold and transformative steps which are urgently
needed to shift the world onto a sustainable and resilient path. As we
embark on this collective journey, we pledge that no one will be left
behind.
All United Nations Member States adopted the Sustainable Development
Goals (SDGs), also known as the Global Goals, in 2015 as a universal call to
action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy
peace and prosperity by 2030.
The world has adopted an ambitious agenda, the Sustainable Development
Goals, to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all.
Learn how we can achieve these goals through careful planning and
engagement of diverse stakeholders.
At the Central Government level, NITI has been assigned the role of
overseeing the implementation of SDGs in the country.
