Darshan
CHAPTER EIGHTEEN
ELECTRIFYING! THE singing spoke of a love and gratitude beyond measure. The auditorium swelled to its 20,000 capacity. Oblivious to pain, thousands had been sitting for hours on hard, cold concrete, transfixed in the chanting, awaiting his appearance. Now a heightened excitement arose in the music. Light, vibrating at quivering intensity, brought all eyes to the front. There he was, standing quietly, absolutely at one with the music, orange robe softly settling over a fluid body—pure love flowing to the heart of each devotee.
All eyes were glued to the Master now, all voices in touch with his heart. He was in the music now, intoxicating our souls with the awesome grandeur of the miraculous moment—that is Darshan.1
Thousands had come from all over the world: the rich, the poor, the weak and the strong. All sat side by side in the presence of Sathya Sai. I had been in his physical presence before; this was now my eighth trip to him. Yet I was filled with an excitement and vision I could have at no other place but here. There is no way to describe the actual encounter. The mind cannot hold the vision that the heart grasps in this moment of intimate contact. Everlasting reality is revealed. I am He—I am eternal—I am divine!
