(Maybe I should check with Ripley’s Believe It or Not, because I did get it accomplished.)
What I have learned from leading others is that they must want it more for themselves than I want it for them. Here is my advice for you ladies who just started your agency, or who are reinventing your agency. Decide what kind of agency you want. Not what you read on social media. (While I’m skirting this issue, for the love of... please stop comparing yourselves to what people ‘say’ they are doing!)
Once you know what you want, find a fellow agency owner who is where you want to be and has built what you are wanting to build. Reach out and ask them for help, advice, encouragement. Hopefully that person will give it to you straight. No frills, no fluff. You want the honest truth of what it’s going to take. Those of us who have built it know that it’s not easy, but it IS worth it once you begin to see your dream and vision come to fruition.
Once you know what it’s going to take, you need to have an honest conversation with yourself. Are you going to be able (and are you willing) to put in the time, effort, and work that it will take you to get there? I built a big part of my clientele before I became a mom, working 13-hour days, six and sometimes seven days a week. I, however, wasn’t running around chasing toddlers at that time either.
Regardless of where you are in your agency journey, you have a future that you get to shape. Don’t let anyone belittle who you are or what you are capable of! Fortunately, unlike what I encountered, today’s insurance industry is filled with selfless, giving, knowledgeable individuals who are willing to help. Just reach out and ask. In fact, if you believe that I can assist you in your agency journey, feel free to reach out to me. I’m incredibly busy scaling my own agency and diligently still taking the toys from the boys, but somehow I seem to always find time to help when called upon.
 Come a Long Way
