Questions words

Hay preguntas que pueden responderse con sí o no y otras que se realizan para obtener una
información más concreta. Las palabras que se utilizan para encabezar este segundo tipo de preguntas
son las llamadas wh-words, las más utilizadas son:
Who, what, where, when, why y how. (estas son las palabras para hacer preguntas en inglés).

Acuérdate de que las preguntas en inglés casi siempre tienen un verbo auxiliar también: do / does / did
/ is / are, was / were, etc.
Cómo formar preguntas con who, what, where, when, why y how.

Fíjate que se usan who, what, where, etc para formar preguntas abiertas. Con eso, quiero decir que la
respuesta es una cosa, un lugar, una persona – no es una pregunta que se contesta con un
simple sí o no.

Así tenemos…
Who: (quién – una persona) Who did you have lunch with yesterday?
Who is the woman in this picture?

What: (qué – cuál - una cosa) What are you doing/eating/thinking?
What kind of music do you like?

Where: (dónde – un lugar Where was he born?
Where is the nearest bus stop?

When: (cuándo – un momento When do we have to be at the airport?
When did you finish university?

Why: (por qué – una razón Why does he smile so much?
Why is the car making that noise?

How: (cómo–una manera How do you usually get to work?
How is your grandmother feeling?

Existen diferentes palabras interrogtivas que tienen como origen el adverbio HOW, por ejemplo:
How much: (cuánto - qué cantidad)

How long: (cuánto tiempo – distancia - duración)
How old: (qué edad)

How many (cuántos – para preguntar sobre el número de algo contable)
How often (para preguntar sobre la frecuencia de algo)

How big (para preguntar sobre el tamaño de algo)
