Saffron could not resist the offer. ‘It’s a bit early, but I’m sure Rowan won’t mind being woken up,’ she said with a gleeful grin.
She spent the rest of the morning thoroughly exploring the district; finding the best riding tracks on the side of the roads and working out where she could take shortcuts through parks or wasteland.
Her mother had insisted that she wear a bright orange parka. ‘So the drivers know you’re there, love!’ It made her feel like a total jerk, but she did admit that
Magic, being jet-black, might be hard to see.
She had studied the map closely and
rode to Thornhill without too much trouble. A car full of drunken yobbos, coming back from
a late night out, hooted their car horn
as they
