Saffron knew that she shouldn’t have frightened the horses. As she trudged after them, she tried not to think about the fact that she was obviously crazy. This dreadful day must been too much for her. Fancy imagining that a bird had been talking to her!
She could see that a car was pulling into the parking area near the shed, where the horses had just come to a halt. A ride on Magic would calm her nerves. She went over to get her tack from the shed.
The Stevens family were stalking their naughty, round, dun pony called Pumpkin. Magic was harder to catch than usual but it was a relief to be dealing with such everyday problems.
‘I shouldn’t have frightened you - my very, very best friend,’ she murmured to her pony. She adjusted the saddle cloth, pulled up the girth and surcingle then tightened the chin strap of her safety helmet.
They were a good, resourceful team and set off at a brisk trot into the three hundred acre paddock. They avoided Rocky Knoll as Saffron was not keen on any more freaky experiences that day.
