The Councillor coughed, then continued. ‘Pertaining to this matter ... the probity of an individual member of council has been called into question. Issues of a possible link with an interested party have been raised. Uh, hum! ... These allegations, being of a very serious nature ... the approval, previously granted to the developer of the aforementioned subdivision ... has been rescinded pending further investigation.’
It took a moment or two before the crowd managed to decipher his jargon - to work out what it all meant - then a great noise erupted. Clapping, shrill cat-calls and shouts of joy were followed by the hooting of horns and the loud revving of motorbike engines.
