Suddenly the crest on the little bird’s head shot up in the air, looking, of all things, just like an antenna. A blast of music which Saffron recognised as the A.B.C. Radio News signature tune came out of its mouth.
Then came something which really freaked Saffron out - a newsreader announced the latest update on the rezoning of Green Mountain as a residential area. They broadcast part of an interview with the sleazy sounding Mayor - going on about economic advancement and the future prosperity of the town. The bird’s crest snapped down and everything went quiet.
It was only then that Saffron noticed that it was getting really dark and that the last car was just pulling out of the parking area. Amidst her confusion all she could think of was how worried and angry her parents would be if she didn’t get home really soon.
‘Sorry bird, uh ... Mobo. I’ve got to go, right now! It’s Saturday tomorrow, I’ll be here.’
The bird flew up in surprise as Saffron clamped her legs to Magic’s sides and they disappeared at a fast canter towards the shed.
She quickly untacked Magic, locked the shed, threw feed in the trough and gave her pony a brief kiss on her velvety black muzzle. She ran all the way home and arrived breathless.
