CHAPTER 3.
A BIRD IN THE HAND
As she pushed open the front door and smelt the tantalising aroma coming from the kitchen, Saffron’s mouth began to water. Tom, having got the dinner sizzling, was now washing the breakfast plates so they could be used again for eating the evening meal.
It all seemed so comfortingly usual, she must have dreamt all the awful, weird and wonderful things that had happened to her that day. Apart from the worry frown between her mother’s
eyes and a slight air of awkward silence during dinner, her family seemed in their normal state of abnormality.
As usual, her brother went straight to his room after dinner and turned up his stereo. For once, she actually enjoyed listening to him strumming his guitar to the sound of his favourite metal songs, which he kept
repeating over and over again. It was better
than the thoughts that kept repeating
themselves over and over in
her mind.
