Now, my darling, tell me what you want to spend it on.’
‘Well, actually, before we go thinking up anything too exotic,’ replied Angie, quickly recovering from her shock. ‘There
happen to be some rather hefty bills which we need to pay.’ ‘Please, Tom,’ Saffron added. ‘If there’s any money left over from the bills, could we please buy some timber ... and some
wire mesh?’
‘Whatever for?’ asked both her parents at once. ‘You’re jinxed!’ she squealed.
‘No, seriously, I’m worried about Kiwi. She’s O.K. at the moment, but when she gets bigger I reckon she’s going to turn into an ace hunter. I’d just hate her to start killing birds and lizards, she might even get bitten by a snake ... or get run over on the road. ‘Why, of course, dear,’ answered her Mother. ‘You and I can work on the design together. We could put a cat door through the wall so Kiwi can come and go as she wants. It’s a great idea. I’m sure there’ll be enough money, because I’m about to be paid for my work as well. We’ll buy the materials and build it ourselves. Do you want to start on it tomorrow?’
‘Well, actually, said Saffron, looking sheepishly up at her parents. ‘I’ve got plans for tomorrow - I’ve got to talk to you about them as well ...’
