‘Why, thanks Mobo,’ she replied, blushing, ‘but there are lots of good people around; you’ll see a few more of them here - now that the mountain has been declared a wildlife sanctuary. You know the money we made at the dance? We’ve decided to spend it on fencing off some of the steep creek-banks. Then we’ll plant more trees to stop the erosion.’
Mobo, in his usual decisive manner, told her exactly what sort of trees should be planted. Now that he had learnt how to manage humans, Mobo was going to keep control of his own backyard. Saffron thought that it would only be a matter of time before his backyard had massively expanded.
“Today - Green Mountain, Tomorrow - The World!” That line kept going through her mind as she walked back down Rocky Knoll, to where Magic was still waiting, hoping that more carrots would miraculously appear in her feed bowl.
‘Yes, I have got some more in my backpack. You’ll have to wait though. The day’s still young - how about another ride? Then we’ll have lunch by the waterhole.’
Saffron put on her helmet, then caught and bridled her pony. She vaulted on board and set off at a brisk pace across the paddock.
‘You know, Magic, I think Mobo’s all set now - though he’s going to have his hands full, uh, ... wings full?
Oh, stuff-it!
They’re going to going to keep him busy for a while. They may look cute, but I reckon they’re a bunch of ratbags.
