bazza's ragga stack
Vibes on toppa Vibes
Yes friends, Greetings for another edition of Zone Magazine. For my latest edition of Bazza's Ragga Stack I've compiled my recent top ten tunes; straight up heaters for the Summer Festivals seeing as we're getting no love from mother nature again this year. I also caught up with UK's most soulful Reggae/Jungle/Dancehall vocalist in David Boomah.
I'm always on the lookout for new tunes, exclusives and getting on the label promo-lists so please feel free to hit me up anytime on by contacting: djbazzaranks@gmail.com. Enough blabbering, I hope you enjoy the latest Bazza's Ragga Stack.
Hello David Boomah. Let's go way back, how did you get hooked on music in the first place and what was the time/point/place or person that showed you this was a full time career that has spanned over 20 years now?
Blessings Bazza Ranks, I honestly believe I was born with a deep love for music. I couldn't tell you when I got hooked because I have been hooked from as far back as I can remember. It's a bit of a shame as music has never been my full time career for me (I wish it was) and in all honesty I have only been able to prioritise music in the last 5 and half years. I would describe every musical endeavour up until 2010 as a hobby as I had other areas that were more of a priority.
Your new project ''Wish upon a star'' Ft. Row Pieces is a very rounded release. There's literally every genre you can think of covered in the overall release. From More radio friendly mixes to straight club versions. Can you tell us a little bit about how this release was formed and how you ended up with such a diverse set of remixes?
"Wish Upon A Star Feat Rowpieces" is a very special project, it's the first release of myself on my own Record Label "Forward Ever Recordings" and I wanted to bring something that appealed to a diverse listenership because I love music in all shapes forms and genres. The release started off as a Liquid Drum & Bass track when I heard Rowpieces soulful instrumental and I starting writing the hooks and the melodies. Once the original was finished I started thinking about Remixes and enlisted Battery to see what they could do with it, once their dark and moodyRemix was complete I felt the soulful vocal would do well with an R&B Remix so called on Hypertone who did an amazing job and things just snowballed into The Lost Soundsystem and N-Type getting involved with the Deep House and UK Garage Remixes.
You have your own record label: Forward Ever recordings. There is a
small roster of upcoming UK talent here. As a UK dance/bass music veteran, Do you enjoy nurturing new talents and teaching them the ways of the industry? Do you intend on expanding the roster or are you content keeping a tight knit family type experience?
I'm not really sure what the future holds for Forward Ever as music is such a precarious, unpredictable business. I love nurturing new talent and the previous 9 releases on "Forward Ever have been new talent so I do hope I can continue doing that but at this time I really want to get a new David Boomah album ready for the Label so the nurturing may have to come through features and production in the immediate future.
You have a very distinctive soulful voice. Having seen you perform many times I can safely say that you know when Boomah is on the mic straight away. Has the soulful approach helped you not only to shine in a live setting but in studio as you seem to have recorded or featured on nearly every form of music from Jungle,
hiphop, reggae, soul, House garage etc?
Thanks Bro, I don't know what to say to this question I just try to compliment whatever instrumental is put in front of me and I am very happy singing on all genres. Its all about the vibes for me and if instrumental moves me then I start thinking of lyrics and melodies automatically.
