all-time top ten's
10. Bedrock – For What You Dream Of [Bedrock]
More than 20 years old and still sounds good. I’ve probably sweated more to this track than any other.
9. Quench – Dreams [Infectious Records]
The first 12” I ever bought
8. Mory Kante - Yeke Yeke [Barclay]
Yes we are all sick to death of it now, but I had this tune for a good two years before it really went mainstream. Jesus Christ it did some serious damage for me back in the day.
7. Cole Medina – I Like You [Foto Recordings]
An edit of an old DeBarge tune, the production on this is absolutely off planet. One of the best pieces of electronica I’ve heard in years. Check the full quality version on Spotify.
6. DJ Luck & Chris Bum – Dreams [White Label]
A cheeky bootleg by Chris Lum and DJ Buck from a few years back. Amazing take on the Fleetwood Mac original.
5. Cleptomaniacs – All I Do (original bootleg / not the official release) [White Label]
Heard Derrick Carter drop this in and chop it up with the original Stevie track. Its not that its an amazing record, but more so that it was a lightbulb moment for me – all the stuff I was really into was based on disco and funk from the 70s. It really turned me onto the original pirate material! That’s where I spend my ear time now.
4. Hope - Tree Frog [DiKi Records]
Heard Paul Newhouse play this at the first ever ‘rave’ I was at. I arranged Paul to come down and play here in Roscommon in 95. That record blew my mind that night. It’s still as clear as day in my mind some 20 years later.
3. Leftfield – Leftism [Hard Hands]
Might be cheating here including an album, but Jesus Christ that is some album. The first track is the best thing you can ever test a stereo with. Turn it up to eleven and if you’re new stereo doesn’t shit its pants when the bass drops, then you know your money has been well spent.
2. Alison Limerick – Where Love Lives [Arista]
What can be said about this track that hasn’t already been said? One of the finest house tracks of all time, and then some.
1. Lovebirds – Want You In My Soul [Winding Road Rec.]
This has to be one of the best records of the last 10 years. From the lazy intro to the full on end this track is a timeless piece of dance and I will cherish it for the rest of my days!
1. Sourmash - Pilgramige to Paradise [Prolecult Records]
My very first record, heard it on (an actual) mix tape but didn't know the name, went record shopping and the first record I picked it up to listen to was this one. It fell into my lap. Still stands the test of time and still gives me goose bumps.
2. Moby - Go (Rainforest Mix) [Outer Rhythm]
I have no Idea how many various mixes of this track actual exist, but it's a lot, this is the best one I've heard. A really nice hardcore rave track. Think of white gloves, whistles and Vick's vapour rub.
3. Thomas Krome - Shockabuku (Vol.2) [Corb]
Absolute stomper techno track, Much like most of Thomas Kromes music. I don't know how many times I've listened to this track but each and every time I scrunch up my face, start rocking my head and usually burst eventually by booting something across the room whilst forcing some sort of howl/screech from my gob. YEOW!
4. Cari Lekebusch - Vet Dom Som For Att [Hybrid Records]
When I first heard this album I was blown away, it felt really fresh and 12 tracks on this album and every single one is fantastic, I'm pretty sure Ive played each track at a gig at one stage or another, even two or three tracks off the album in a single set.
5. Laurent Garnier - Crispy Bacon [F Communications]
I was actually reluctant to buy this, I couldn't find anything I really liked that day in Abbey discs but didn't want to have wasted Billy's time without leaving with something, so I took this home even though I wasn't too impressed. Then I went to a Laurent Garnier gig and I witnessed how the track tore a hole in the roof as the crowd went mental. I heard it properly then.
6. Ritchie Hawtin - Minus Orange [Mute Records]
Banging techno track. Couldn't get enough when I first heard it. I quickly realised it was ripped off the Band “Yello” from their track “Oh Yeah” once I found “Minus Yellow”. It was fun then to mix and fuck around with the three various tracks.
7. Gui Baratto - Beautiful Life [Kompakt Records]
After party/come down track. I won't lie, this track haws made me emotional on a couple of occasions. No, i didn't cry, but I did have a big stupid grin on my face. Highly recommended to anyone who doesn't know this track, the music video is kinda cool also, i suppose.
8. Ferry Corstan – Rock your Body Rock [Positiva Records]
I don't actually like anything else from Ferry Corstan and I wouldn't bother going to one of his gigs, just not what I'm into, I wouldn't even play this record myself at a gig. So I suppose this is one of my guilty pleasures. I had to buy it just to play it loud to myself and then deny owning it by hiding it somewhere in the back. Fuck it, it's Amazing!
9. Empirion - Ciao [XL Recordings]
Lost for words on this one. You have to hear it to know what I'm talking about, and then you can sit there speechless also. Brilliant. I heard this at a party but never found out the name of it. Then, much like the “Sourmash” record landing on my lap, weeks later a guy I just met handed me two random records from his collection just for the hell of it, he insisted, I listened to them when I got home and couldn't believe what it was. Still have it, still listen to it.
10. Digitalism – Wolves [Magnetism Recordings]
What's not to like about this one? Very chilled but you could still definitely dance to it, if you were delighted enough. Their (Digitalism's) album with this track is pretty special. We like Digitalism!
