Slices - Pioneers of Electronic Music Vol. 1: Richie Hawtin - I really love this film. I had great respect for Richie, back in the day, but of recent reports sort of put me off him, BUT, watching the film made me realise, don’t judge a book by its cover, or by what the media report 100%. There is always a bigger picture, and this film sure makes it right. I have even more respect for him now, and hs is truly a pioneer of techno! The film draws from the important stages and events in Richie Hawtin's personal and artistic life, revealing the journey of an introverted and transplanted computerminded teen that develops by way of Detroit's radio and records fueled by pure driven passion into a successful techno-entrepreneur and global DJ entertainer. Assembling an extensive archive of both new and unreleased photos, video and exclusive interviews, the film provides an extraordinary insight into the life and career of Richie Hawtin. This is a must watch for any Techno head, or infact any electronic music lover, it shows whats needed to thrive in this cutthroat business........ https://www.youtube.com/watch? v=bc6474KUBV8

The Chemical Genreration -
This is a Documantary broardcast on Channel 4 [UK] in 2001. Presented by Boy George, looking at the history and legacy of the UK acid house, rave and clubbing culture since the 1980’s. The program goes into detail on the way UK society and attitudes changed after the dawn of acid house culture and, perhaps, more importantly the introduction of chemical of choice, ecstasy to the party diet of the young people of Britain.
Tony Wilson, Irvine Welsh, Danny Rampling, Mike Pickering, Paul Oakenfold, CJ Mackintosh and Nicky Holloway all feature; as well as the kids who were there at the time from dealers to clubbers. Ibiza, Shoom, the Hacienda and the Criminal Justice Bill all featured properly too. The quality of the film is not great, but a must watch! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KxBCaMvBH5c
Number 7 – Free Tekno -
Film produced in 2012, by Gunnar Hauth. There is a thriving underground illegal tekno scene all over Europe free for anyone to join, but finding the paries is a little tricky! You have to know the right people and go out of your way, getting lost, and traveling from one point to another before reaching the final party destination. Free parties all over Europe, no funding, just donations and people helping each other out! That’s what its all about. Not everyones cuppa tea, but you have to take your hat off to them, travelling around Europe, in not so great transport, living off the land and whatever they get from friends.
You could end up in the woods, or an abandonded warehouse, or maybe an old millatay base! There could be thousands or just a few people, but there is always a great atmosphere and friendly banter. I love this, and I have been to a few in my time, all great for a different experience, now and then, but relentlessly doing this every week would not be my cuppa! I like to go to warehouse parties now when I can, but going home to a warm bed and a warm house is a definate plus. Maybe Im getting old now, and don’t have the energy I used to!
This flim is a must see, and I think it really shows the dedication to the scene and to live free! Hats off boys & girls! Check this link: http://www.icelandiccinema.com/filmFree-Tekno https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d7MUlimHYx4
