ibiza report 2015 - sankey closing
After Zone Magazine got an invite from the UK Jukebox promo crew during the summer requesting us to attend and write about the Sankeys closing parties on the white Island, tickets were acquired and booked immediately and the 60 day countdown of torture began....tick tock tick tock.......
Fast forward, fast check-in, fast beers and beats, its back to the future, emerging provocatively almost telepathically into the left and right hemispheres’ of my brain, transmitted through the Boeing A320 and gulped down with each swallow of my beer, is the anticipation you feel as it’s getting nearer and nearer I thought, and no not the urge to piss but, the popping of my
ears as the air craft drops hundreds of feet a second in a controlled decent, the knots in my stomach are palpable, ‘prepare for landing’ is audible throughout the cabin, it’s getting nearer, gulping another mouthful down, how many have I had, and then it happens... touch down.....I hear screeching .....and ..... It’s not the tyres or the brakes.. wait... it’s me, we are here, we have landed in..... Ibiza....cue music, cue Frankie Wild!!!!!
Boom booom boooom ...... square basss boooom booom booom, square bass Boooooom.. how I love those banging beats and banging basslines rising erupting, the tension, as it’s enticing me as I checked in and descended through the guest list and down the stairs – (Time check, its midnight) into a sweaty hypnotic pulsating dungeon of sound, surrounded and enveloped on all sides by the vibrating bodies of numerous souls pumping through the laser dissected darkness from what seemed like a parallel dimension, ‘stomping it’ as a matter of urgency. Engorging synths chording throughout my body urging it to throb in unison with the driving concrete shattering beats, rising moog enhanced basslines, certainly not for the ‘hey bro’ pretenders, but only for the head strong, as the legendary underground atmosphere of Sankeys in Ibiza’s Boro boro, unifies the crowd into a pulsating sweaty frenzy as my ears are hearing it, my feet are beating it, now then,.. Let’s f****** have it as the temperature rises!!!
And I did... It’s like a dream.. with my partner in crime Sharon giving it all we had until the end eventually came, until we gave the DJ’s an ovation of appreciation at stupid o clock in the morning, along with all the other island warriors who battled the furious beats ...to emerge into the glaring sunshine... cue the walk of shame, but not without saying thank you Sankey’s for the lesson in, ‘this is how we do it ... this is how we party Madchester style in the Mediterranean’, this is legendary, this is Sankey’s Ibiza!!!! Take note and list it! See you next year.
