I knew what was coming next before Penny spoke again.
‘Amber would you give me a couple of hours?’, she spoke fast so I wouldn’t interrupt, ‘It would be the weekends only, you could stay over so you wouldn’t be traveling home late’, Penny waited nervously for my answer.
‘Oh, Penny I’m not sure if I want to get into a work situation again, that’s why I came here’, I said apologetically.
‘I want the quiet life and the bar is always busy on the weekends especially in the summer’ I felt bad especially when Penny began to sob quietly.
‘Oh, Penny please don’t cry’ I put my arm around her shoulder.
‘Sorry Amber I don’t mean to pressure you, you are so good with people. I worry when I think of you alone in the cottage and thought you would enjoy a couple of hours of company’.
‘I’ll think about it’, I said reluctantly.
‘Thank you, Amber, let me know as soon as you decide Paul wants to go as soon as possible. If you decide not to take the job it will not affect our friendship I promise’, Penny assured me.
As I drove home I felt a little peeved although Penny said it would not affect our friendship I had reservations. I knew I would have to accept. They have been so good to me and we have become such good friends.
No pressure?
Maybe it will be fun.
