‘Rex? I must have dozed off’, I know I sounded cross I was annoyed that he had rang after I specifically told him to give me a few days.
‘Sorry for disturbing you I just wanted to say I’m missing you already’.
‘Are you working this weekend?’ I asked trying to change the subject.
‘Yes, Penny and I are giving Paul, Seki and Jenny the weekend off, only fair really’, he added.
‘Ok! I’ll call in tomorrow after I’ve met with Mr.Gunn, I need to visit the school about the painting classes’, I said a little agitated .
‘See you then Darling’, Rex hung up, way too cheerful for my current state.
I had a very successful meeting with Mr. Gunn the following day we got on very well and he was nearly as excited as I was about the classes I would be teaching, we drew up a contract for two art classes a week, one for beginners and one for the more advance. I needed roughly 10 students in each class so that it would allow me enough to pay for the room plus a little profit. I was feeling happy and positive, so I decided to call in to see Penny and Rex. The buzz in the bar was deafening and spotting Penny at the back of the main room I gave her a wave.
‘Come in the back’, she called to me. Rex gave me a smile and openly blew me a kiss and out of the corner of my eye I saw that Jenny had seen this and stood with her mouth agape looking from me to Rex. It seemed she was there with some friends from college, so didn’t make a fuss, but I had no doubts that she would confront Rex later.
‘Well it looks like the place survived without you’, I said with a smile to Penny when we had moved into the relative quiet of the back room.
