The marine industry came together to test, approve and help commercialize a next-generation biofuel, biobutanol.
Evinrude engineers led research into advanced biofuels working under the direction of the U.S. Department of Energy, Argonne National Laboratory and with support and collaboration across the entire marine industry. Over the course of five years, hundreds of pages of peer-reviewed research papers were published, and thousands of hours of testing completed which led to the approval of biobutanol fuel blends. This collective and proactive research and testing program has brought forward a next-generation compatible biofuel alternative to ethanol that is beginning to make its way to fueling stations across the United States.
