A. INTRODUCTION
1. Short Description.
This teaching material will discuss greeting expressions and leave-taking
expressions in English. In greeting, several things must be considered, namely the
situation of the conversation and with whom we are talking. Therefore, there are
two types of greetings, the first is formal greetings and the second is informal
greetings. Formal greetings are usually used in official situations and are addressed
to strangers, colleagues, teachers, or others who do not have a close relationship.
Meanwhile, informal greetings are expressions that are used when the situation is
not official and is addressed to someone who has a close relationship such as family,
close friends, etc. Apart from greetings, this teaching material also discusses leave-
taking, just like greetings, leave-taking is also divided into two types, namely formal
and informal. Examples of formal leave-taking such as "It was a pleasure seeing
you" addressed to someone who is not close, then "Nice to meet you" addressed to
someone who has a close relationship in other words Informal leave-taking.
2. Relevance.
These teaching materials contain explanations about greetings and leave-taking.
Because these two things are very often done in everyday life. After studying this
eBook, it is hoped that students will be able to know what types of greetings and
leave-taking are and the responses, and how to use them properly.
