Projection and the Tarot Outline
Instructor: Shelley Carter
Projection is a fascinating psychological concept that I believe is a major underpinning of how tarot works.
We have come to understand the psychological concept of projection as the unconscious attribution of our personal experiences and feelings to ambiguous stimuli. A great example is playing the cloud game in childhood, when we lay on the ground looking at clouds, telling our friends what we saw.
Generally, when people come for a reading, they expect us to give an interpretation of the cards that we lay. However, simply asking your client to select a card and tell you what they see would likely illicit some great information, and could be the basis for very meaningful readings.
In this study group, I will describe projection in detail, and look at how it applies to the tarot. I will describe a reading method that I think enhances the opportunities for projection in a reading, and participants will practise that method.
Shelley Carter Carter is an OT psychotherapist, occasional exhibition curator, tarot reader and enthusiast. She has been a therapist for almost 40 years, and can’t help but bring a therapeutic approach to the tarot readings she has been offering for
more than 15 years.
Shelley coordinated the creation, publication and exhibition of the Elora Tarot deck, the collaborative creation of 65 artists from the beautiful historic village of Elora, Ontario.
Kabbalistic Tarot As A Spiritual Path
Instructor: Mark Horn
Go on an inner mythic and meditative journey, using Tarot to follow the path of the ancient Israelites from their first day of freedom from slavery in Egypt to their arrival at Mt. Sinai 49-days later, where they received the revelation of Torah on the 50th day. This traditional kabbalistic practice is designed to strengthen your spiritual container to hold and share ever greater light.
Because kabbalistic teachings can feel abstract, even for those well versed in Jewish mysticism, this workshop is designed to make this knowledge quickly accessible. You’ll come away with keys to unlock the gates to the Tree of Life and its relationship to the Minor Arcana so you can give deeper, richer readings. You’ll learn how the relationships between the Sephirot can deepen your understanding and interpretations of the cards. You’ll discover how the “shadow” tree can affect your readings and your own energy. And you’ll come away with a daily practice you can use to open any energetic blocks to experiencing the Divine in your own life.
Mark Horn is a graduate of the Society of Souls program in Integrated Kabbalistic Healing. He has taught traditional Jewish storytelling at the Jewish Theological Seminary. He has studied Kabbalah with well-respected academic and religious teachers, including Dr. Elliot Wolfson and Rabbi David Ingber. He has been reading Tarot since age 16, when he was first encouraged by Marion Zimmer Bradley.
