Hugo Merienne
Hugo Merienne’s dream has always been to become a racehorse trainer. A family
passion passed on by his grandfather, who was a trainer and by his father, who
has always owned thoroughbreds, as well as his uncle Julien Merienne, himself a
trainer in Mayenne.
He has been privileged to learn from some of the best trainers in Europe. After a
very successful riding career as an amateur for Arthur Moore and Guillaume
Macaire, he worked as an assistant trainer to Yannick Fouin before spending a
season with Willie Mullins in Ireland; this was invaluable experience which has
provided him with great contacts and knowledge for use in his own stable. He
then continued to refine his eye for selecting a good racehorse working for two
years as a bloodstock agent, purchasing winners for clients in Ireland and
England.
Hugo prides himself on honesty and treats every horse as an individual. He
assesses the needs of both the horse and the owner before designing their
training program and deciding on which races to target.
