Jordan Glatt
Jordan Glatt was the first Democrat elected to Summit Common
Council, serving as Councilman-At-Large beginning in 2001. He
was elected Mayor in 2003 and re-elected in 2007 with over
60% of the popular vote. As Mayor, Glatt worked with other
towns in our area to cut costs to Summit taxpayers while
maintaining a high level of essential services. Based on his effectiveness, he was
named a “shared services czar” in 2015 by New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy. Glatt
also founded the Mayor’s Partnership for Technology in Summit public schools in 1995,
and founded First Night Summit in 1993 Currently, Glatt is Director of Strategic
Partnerships at the Community Foundation of New Jersey (CFNJ) where he works with
corporations, entrepreneurs, and families to design charitable vehicles that deliver
impact in New Jersey communities. Prior to joining CFNJ, he was Chief Marketing
Officer of Free All Media, a social media start-up, and served on its Board of Directors.
Prior to that, he was president and CEO of Magla Products, a $90 million, nationally
recognized household consumer products company. He has served on the Wofford
College Board of Trustees and the Drew University Board of Trustees (his alma mater).
He has also served on the New Jersey Economic Growth Council, as Vice Chairman of
the New Jersey Gaming and Horse Racing Commission, and as chairman of the New
Jersey Young Presidents Organization.
Susan Hairston
Susan Hairston, a fourth-generation Summit resident, was
elected to Common Council in 2019, to complete Matt Gould’s
term representing Ward 1 following Matt’s untimely death. On
Council, her current roles include: Chairperson of the Safety
and Health Committee; member of the Law & Labor Committee;
and liaison to six community committees. In the past, Hairston
served two terms on Summit’s Board of Education, culminating
as President. She has also served as commissioner for the
Union County Board of Taxation; as a governor for Union County College and
Foundation, where she is currently a Foundation Trustee; and as chairwoman of the
Summit Municipal Democratic Committee. She co-chaired the Mayor’s Forum on
Diversity under Mayor Ellen Dickson, served as a Trustee for the Providing Educational
Possibilities (PEP) Foundation, and as a Trustee for Fountain Baptist Church, where
she continues to be an active volunteer. Her other volunteer contributions include the
Summit Area YMCA’s Achiever Program and the Women & Girls Homeless Shelter.
Professionally, Susan spent more than twenty years with the Ford Foundation
overseeing a large staff with responsibility for budget and compliance review. From
there, she moved to a growing New York-based foundation with responsibility for grant
management. She has recently formed her own consulting company, assisting
nonprofits with organization and funding development. She is currently an Advisory
Board Member for the Center for Effective Philanthropy.
