The club continues to show its strength and popularity, with player numbers growing rapidly in recent years. Over the last decade, we have more than doubled our junior players, developed a thriving female section for both adults and juniors, and increased our Saturday teams from three to six, with even a seventh XI making its debut this season, and winning!
This growth brings its own challenges, and we couldn't provide the quality cricket experience we offer without the dedication of our volunteers—the committee members, managers, coaches, parents, and others who give so much of their time. I would like to particularly recognise the contributions of Michael Parkinson Jr. and his family, who have driven the success of the Sports Club and the Pavilion, turning it into the excellent venue it is today.
A special thanks also to the bar staff who run the place day-to-day. Please do take a moment to thank all the people who make this club what it is.
As our membership grows, so does the need for enhanced facilities. We must find additional space to play, whether through fundraising to develop a third ground or hiring pitches for junior and lower-level adult games.
Cricket pitches in the Royal Borough are scarce, and if anyone has contacts or ideas about developing a new oval or knows of available squares at local schools or elsewhere, please don't hesitate to contact me.
Today’s event is also aimed at fundraising for the Sir Michael Parkinson wing of the Pavilion, a redevelopment project for the existing River Room. This will enable the Pavilion to become an even more
vital hub for social events locally, strengthening its role within our community. Please enjoy today and contribute generously to this worthy cause. Remember, everyone is welcome as part of the MBCC family, and we hope to see you back often.
LET’S MAKE THIS DAY A RESOUNDING SUCCESS, CELEBRATING CRICKET, COMMUNITY, AND THE LEGACY OF SIR MICHAEL PARKINSON. ENJOY THE CRICKET AND THE FESTIVITIES.
