Driver Compliance Overview Breach of Life Saving Rule(s)
There has recently been several incidents whereby some drivers have operated a vehicle
‘in-scope’ of EU Driver’s Hours without correctly using the Tachograph Recording
Equipment. Driving a vehicle without a valid driver’s digital tachograph card inserted into
the machine is TOTALLY FORBIDDEN. This alert is to remind you, the driver, of your
responsibilities towards company policy, the law and the protection of the group
operator’s licence.
Driver Action Required:
Your driver card MUST be inserted into slot 1 of the tachograph
machine the moment you start the working day.
You MUST keep an unbroken 24/7 record on your digital card for the current and, at
least, the previous 28 calendar days, showing all daily and weekly rest periods.
You MUST record all periods of absence (sickness, holidays etc.) as ‘A REST
PERIOD’ on your driver's card.
DO NOT DRIVE WITHOUT YOUR DIGITAL CARD INSERTED INTO SLOT 1.
Remember: Your digital driver's card must be inserted into the tachograph machine (Slot 1) for the duration of your
working day. UNLESS it's been lost, stolen or damaged and then you MUST follow the group & DVSA protocol
procedures in place. Please click on the driver manual link above and read the correct procedure in your manual.
