Kris got employed at Santa Fe Drilling out of Odessa, and I got a job at McLachlan's Pipe Yard in Midland. I worked from 8 am to 5
pm, and Kris from 8 pm to 6 am, if I remember correctly.
Neither Kris nor I had given up on our dream of having a dog business together. I signed up a few people and their dogs
for weekend classes in a Midland park. Keep my life going to the dogs and getting a little pay for it. Kris, at that time, was way too beat to
put any time into training. What he had to do and the hours he had to keep were understandable.
We stayed with the Glovers for over a month and rented an apartment in Odessa. I found a new pipe yard to work, so everything
seemed well. I still had my dog training class in Midland.
While living in Odessa, we started attending church. One Sunday, we answered the altar call and, the following week, got Baptized. A
huge step forward in life and one I remember so well. That's when we became real brothers, brothers in Christ Jesus. Brothers, we will
forever be throughout all eternity.
There is so much to our story. He, brother Kris, always looked up to me, and the fool I was sure did not deserve his love or trust. I let him
down in so many ways. He was made aware of how dishonest I was, and he dared to accept me with all my sins and love me as his brother
despite myself. His devotion helped me change and find my way. I was trying to live a life of honor, being trustworthy, making promises, and
keeping them the best I could. His counsel was not to make them in the first place. I wish I had taken his words, young wisdom, and honesty
to heart.
Truth be known it was he that was being looked up to. Kris was my role model for a very long time. Right up to the moment of his return
home to our heavenly Father. How so very blessed I have been to be part of his life and share our burdens and love for one another. We
were praying and sharing the Love of our Lord.
