Jin-Sook So
Jin-Sook So has been creating artworks
using steel mesh, something like tulle
cloth, since before 2000. Konstruction
(Ritual and Reverence) began with a steel
mesh, which So silver-plates to introduce a
reflective, precious surface, through con-
trolled oxidation in multiple stages. Next,
she creates a flowing gradient of colors,
capturing a sense of transformation and
time, finally, stitching the mesh with steel
thread – evoking the art of binding a page
or framing an image – bringing a tactile,
almost narrative, structure to the work.
Deeply inspired by bojagi, a traditional
Korean folk art form rooted in wrapping
and layering, So has sought to reinterpret
its cultural and aesthetic essence through
a contemporary lens, creating a dialogue
between tradition and modernity.
