In Empties (Reading Between the Lines)
by Karyl Sisson, the tape measures are
first woven into a whole cloth, then cut
apart with the ends folded in on them-
selves and finally sewn up with thread at
the seams. “These are ‘empty’ baskets,”
Sisson says, “referencing loss and empty
words, actions and promises. These bas-
kets represent my personal state of being
– my emotional response to ‘empty nest-
ing’ and our present state of cultural and
political affairs.”
