Here, McQueen has woven willow branches into a book with pages that fold out, inspired by traditional Asian book-binding techniques that he saw during a six-month, grant-funded stay in Japan. There are six pages with one bird pictured on each: a pigeon, starling, vulture, sparrow, crow, and blue jay. These are birds that people don’t usually like – the “scoundrels” of the bird kingdom.
