In Intimate Domain, McQueen wanted to make a blue tree even though they don’t exist. A blue sky is often the background or negative space around trees. In this wall sculpture, blue leaves sprout from the brown branches. The initials of McQueen and his partner recall the initials that teenagers often carve into trees, making the tree “an intimate domain.”
