In creating this large basket, McQueen is as interested in the empty or negative spaces as he is in the physical form itself. McQueen created this piece for the exhibition: art + identity, 2019. He wrote the following statement for the exhibition catalog:
“What my work has to do with American culture: It is a statement about the fact that I may be the last person in this country leaning against technology and what is the farthest from a computer but a basket?”
