the momentary pleasures of the body. He had already been thinking of a vow to
give up the life of the flesh, and the attractions of the flesh. The conviction
grew in him that he could not do public work without leading a life of
brahmacharya or celibacy. So, when he returned from the field of battle, he
talked the matter over with his wife. She had no objection. He was happy to
receive her consent. He took the vow of brahmacharya (celibacy) in 1906. He
was 37 years of age.
