A Snapshot of 2015 January Ian Edwards, chairman of West Midlands Police Federation, warned of another challenging year ahead saying: “The cuts to January police budgets are once again dominating headlines. I make no apology for repeating what I have always said on this subject. In a nutshell, when you cut police numbers you cut the service we can provide to the public.” February Our Federation joined a number of Federations in a two-month #CutsHaveConsequences campaign to inform the February public about the effects May of Government cuts on policing. The campaign included a video highlighting how West Midlands Police has been hit by reduced funding. March In response to Stop and Search 2: Are the police using them fairly?, published by HMIC, the Police Federation called May for a strengthening of training and At the national Police Federation legislation. March conference the message to Government was “Enough is Enough”. April June April More than 140 West Midlands police officers, staff and their families attended a special ‘thank you’ at West Bromwich Albion Football Club organised by West Midlands Police Federation and the Force chaplaincy team. This was followed by other similar events at Wolves and Aston Villa in May and June. June A national support line for officers went live. The Welfare Support Programme was set up through joint partnership between the Police Federation and the Police Firearms Officers Association (PFOA). 22
