was a tent in the round, only doing summer
shows. I expected to be in Massachusetts
for three years and move on from there, but
I met my husband, Simon, and we chose to
make our life here.
What brought you to the Phil?
I moved to Plymouth after getting married, and we raised our two children
here. I mostly stayed home to raise the kids, only returning to work full-time
after both kids were in school for full days. I was concerned that after ten years
of part-time jobs, I would not be able to return to a career. But then the Cape
Cod Symphony hired me, and the orchestra world just felt like home. When
I learned about the job at the Phil, I was super excited at the opportunity to
make a difference in the town where I lived. It’s been very challenging but also
very rewarding.
What are some of your favorite duties as Executive
Director?
That’s a tough question! Having grown up in the arts, I’ve done pretty much
every concert-related job, from front of the house to producing concerts to
raising the funding to make the concerts happen. I’d have to say my favorite
part is working with the artists. Never being a musician myself, I am in awe of
their talent and enjoy getting to know them. Phil musicians lead interesting
lives.
What accomplishments in your Phil tenure are you most
proud of?
We have accomplished many things over the past ten years, including increasing
the number and frequency of concerts, growing our audience base by leaps
and bounds, and raising over ½ million dollars each year to support and grow
the organization. However, I think I’m most proud of building a dedicated
team. When I started, I was the only full-time employee. Now we have a fully
professional (albeit still small) team. My team consists of Kara McEachern
(Director of Operations), Gail Dunford (Marketing Director), Erin LaFleur (Box
Office Manager), and our newest team member, Elizabeth Lamar-Pinchback
(Admin/Grant Writing). Together, we can accomplish even more!
